If you need to find an image or file, search in the data base on some or all of the volumes saved. The main window displays a list of all volumes analyzed (left), the contents of the selected volume and images. You can browse their contents, view images and read the information (file attributes, EXIF and IPTC data of images, etc.). So you can keep all the content you want in your database while using only a limited space.Īll “virtual volumes” that you have created are available at any time, even if the original disk is no longer available. These “virtual volumes” remain accessible at all times, even if the original disk is no longer available. You can create an unlimited number of “virtual volumes”. It creates a “virtual volume” containing the list of files and folders in the hierarchical organization, and the views of all the images (as thumbnails). Tri-CATALOG can analyze the content of any volume (disk, partition, CD, DVD, USB key, etc.) or folder. On a small Mac, you can view all of your pictures. The “virtual volumes” are very light compared to the original volume, but you can see all the images (reduced). You retain control of the original pictures. Stan said: “MyAnna wanted to get to know what Dawn was like. She was aware we had lost someone and she seemed really in tune with it.” She was not afraid to be demonstrative with us. The Sturgesses were delighted that Buring was going to play their daughter. “I felt Stella was like me and I was like her. When they met, Caroline Sturgess and Gonet turned up in almost-matching outfits. She didn’t have drugs in her system.’ That meant such a lot, they can write whatever they want now.”įor the BBC drama, the couple met the director Saul Dibb and the actors who played them and their daughter – Ron Cook, Stella Gonet and MyAnna Buring. “When the results came back I made them repeat it three times, I said: ‘You’re telling me it wasn’t her fault. “So many people said she did drugs,” said Caroline. They told how, in a strange way, they were relieved when it became clear their daughter had been poisoned with nerve agent rather than contaminated drugs or drink. The Sturgesses first broke their silence in an interview with the Guardian last year. “Things like the drama can help push the door open a bit.” “What happened to Dawn affected a lot more people than us,” said Stan. They also believe the full truth about the number of people affected by the poisoning has not come out. Her parents are campaigning for her inquest to be a wide-ranging hearing, taking into account issues such as whether the British state could have done more to protect her. He said he had found the bottle and given it to her as a gift. Rowley later revealed the novichok had been in a perfume bottle and that she had sprayed the oily liquid over her skin. The Skripals and Rowley survived but Sturgess died on 8 July. On 30 June 2018, mother-of-three Dawn Sturgess, 44, and her partner, Charlie Rowley, fell ill at his home in Amesbury, 11 miles north of Salisbury.Īt first, police believed the couple had taken contaminated drugs but tests showed they too had been poisoned with novichok. Skripal and his daughter Yulia collapsed in Salisbury on 4 March 2018 after being poisoned with the nerve agent novichok at his home on the outskirts of the city. Dawn was sorting herself out and I think she was getting there.” Stan added: “The press put out that it was her lifestyle that caused her death. She was an innocent girl that was poisoned. “She would have been the first to say: ‘Thank god it was me and not children who picked the poison up.’ This could have happened to anybody. These things could happen again and everyone needs to be concerned about it. What the country needs to get is that if it didn’t happen to her, it could have happened to far more people. “Dawn didn’t deserve what happened to her. I’m hoping that this drama will bring that out. She was my child, she wouldn’t have hurt anyone in the world ever. She was a lovely girl, a lovely human being. “The press made it sound like she was living on the streets. She did have an alcohol problem but lived in a hostel, had hopes of getting a home of her own and did not take drugs. The Sturgesses are still angry that at the time of her poisoning, Dawn was depicted by some in the media as a homeless addict. We got fed up with people assuming things about her.” I didn’t really want it made at all, but we knew the way to make it as accurate as possible was to be involved and trying to tell people our story. Stan said: “I knew they would make a movie out of what happened because the story is so strange. The Sturgesses agreed to work with the makers of the BBC drama because they wanted to make sure an accurate and fair picture of their daughter was painted. The couple told of the extraordinary meetings they had with the actors playing them and their daughter for The Salisbury Poisonings, which is to be screened over three nights on 14-16 June on BBC One. Keep your metro ticket with you for your entire ride, and be sure to validate it by swiping at the plexiglass gates before getting on the metro, or you risk incurring hefty fines. It’s a direct route from Monastiraki or Omonia stations (you’ll need to transfer in Monastiraki if you are coming from Syntagma station), and the Piraeus metro station is located just across the street from the port. The metro is a cheap and easy way to get between central Athens and the port. Taking the Metro between Central Athens and Piraeus Port To get from Piraeus port to Athens, consider Welcome Pickups car service over a taxi: they can be pre-booked, cost the same as a cab, and you’ll skip waiting in line at the taxi rank. If you have a lot of luggage, limited mobility, or are short on time taxi is a better option because you can be dropped directly to your gate. The best way to get from Central Athens to Piraeus Port is generally via metro. Transportation Between Piraeus Port and Central Athens (Always check your ticket for gate information as ships sometimes get shuffled around, especially during the high season.) Cruise ships use the two gates at the far south end of the port – E11 and E12. Generally, ships serving the Cyclades islands will use ferry gates E6, E7, E8, E9, and E10 ferries to Crete will use gates E2, E3, E6, and E7 Ferries to the Dodecanese will depart from E1. (Mykonos is particularly well-served from Rafina, Santorini not so much.) From Athens airport to Rafina takes about 20 minutes and costs around €40 by taxi (€55 between midnight and 5am) 40 minutes and €4 by bus. It has fewer sailings and different routes than Piraeus but can be convenient if you’re coming or going via the airport and don’t need to see or stay in central Athens. It takes about 20-30 minutes to get from central Athens to Piraeus by metro (€1.40) or taxi (€25-€30).Īthens has a second ferry port called Rafina. Piraeus is well-connected to central Athens and the airport via reliable metro, train, and bus service. Piraeus ferry port is located about 14km south of central Athens and 35km west of the Athens International Airport. If you take a taxi to the port they could pull up directly to the ferry entrance. Ferries going to the Cyclades (Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Ios, Milos, etc.) are an easy walk from the metro station and airport bus. Piraeus is the main ferry port serving Athens and has ferries going to most Greek Islands. Agile allows for adjustments to project requirements, while Waterfall does not allow for modifications of the requirements once the project is in progress. Waterfall examines after the “Build” phase, while Agile tests during software development. Agile, remember that Agile is an iterative time taking design process, while Waterfall is a linear process. The waterfall is a regimented software development approach, while Agile is a dynamic software development strategy. Waterfall refers to a linear sequential life cycle model, whereas Agile refers to the development process as an up the sequence of development and testing. As a result, there is a high probability that flaws will be found required during the development process when they will be more costly to repair.
Part of which saw the unveiling of our official Discord server, which surpassed 10,000 Members a few days ago. We hosted our first ever ToonFest at Home event to celebrate all things Toontown. To add to these skyhigh statistics, we’ve revelled in some successes together, too. That’s just to name a few! You also called for “HELP!” from your friends 150,000 times - it seems like we all needed a bit of help this year. In fact, Toontown is so united that we’ve seen statistics that would even make a Cog want to do the victory dance. This has meant that despite the many trials we’ve faced, Toontown has emerged more united than ever before. The bonds you’ve made through Toontown and the compassion you’ve shown towards one another are unique and have been a welcome relief for many. Looking back, it’s easy to see that overcoming the experiences of this year couldn’t be a greater reflection of these expressions. We often use the phrases “ Toons of the world, UNITE!” and “ YOU are TOON Enough!” without thinking too much about their meanings. For some, this place provides the perfect escape from the real world - even if it’s just for one quick Sellbot Factory run before dinner.Īs we enter 2021, we want to reflect on all of the accomplishments YOU have made this year in Toontown! Through all of the hardships and challenges, however, hundreds of thousands of people around the world jumped into a place of weird and wacky fun. This year has been a little tough on everyone. Recall, such as required on essay tests, involves two steps: first generating an answer and then determining whether it seems to be the correct one. Your own experiences taking tests will probably lead you to agree with the scientific research finding that recall is more difficult than recognition. A multiple-choice test is an example of a recognition memory test, a measure of explicit memory that involves determining whether information has been seen or learned before. We rely on our recall memory when we take an essay test, because the test requires us to generate previously remembered information. A recall memory test is a measure of explicit memory that involves bringing from memory information that has previously been remembered. Figure 9.2 Types of Memory.Įxplicit memory is assessed using measures in which the individual being tested must consciously attempt to remember the information. Semantic memory refers to our knowledge of facts and concepts about the world (e.g., that the absolute value of −90 is greater than the absolute value of 9 and that one definition of the word “affect” is “the experience of feeling or emotion”). Episodic memory refers to the firsthand experiences that we have had (e.g., recollections of our high school graduation day or of the fantastic dinner we had in New York last year). As you can see in Figure 9.2, “Types of Memory,” there are two types of explicit memory: episodic and semantic. Explicit memory refers to knowledge or experiences that can be consciously remembered. When we assess memory by asking a person to consciously remember things, we are measuring explicit memory. Table 9.1 Memory Conceptualized in Terms of Types, Stages, and Processes. Our discussion will focus on the three processes that are central to long-term memory: encoding, storage, and retrieval. In this section we will consider the two types of memory, explicit memory and implicit memory, and then the three major memory stages: sensory, short-term, and long-term (Atkinson & Shiffrin, 1968). Then, in the next section, we will consider the nature of long-term memory, with a particular emphasis on the cognitive techniques we can use to improve our memories. Summarize the capacities of short-term memory and explain how working memory is used to process information in it.Īs you can see in Table 9.1, “Memory Conceptualized in Terms of Types, Stages, and Processes,” psychologists conceptualize memory in terms of types, in terms of stages, and in terms of processes.Explain the function and duration of eidetic and echoic memories.Compare and contrast explicit and implicit memory, identifying the features that define each. The process is said to make the recall of information easier because it helps to bypass the inherent limitations of working memory.Ĭhunking describes the process by which individual pieces of information are broken down and grouped together. However, chunking also relies heavily upon long-term memory.Ĭhunking is, therefore, related to another aspect of memory known as memory span or digit span (the latter term derives from tests that measure memory span by asking people to repeat back a list of digits that increase incrementally). In education, we often describe these terms in relation to cognitive load, or the demands learning places on our limited mental resources. The way instructional design can be adapted to help learners cope with these limitation has been encapsulated into a model known as Cognitive Load Theory (CLT). This is all well and good, but what exactly is a chunk and how does chunking help us enhance our limited working memory? In turn, CLT draws on aspects of memory research that go back as far as the late nineteenth century, including studies that attempted to discover the limitations of human memory. Unfortunately, there isn’t a great deal of consensus on this, even Miller in his famous 1956 paper on capacity noted ‘we are not very definite about what constitutes a chunk of information.’ Cowan (2001) has defined a chunk as ‘groups of items that have strong, preexisting associations to each other but weak associations to other items’. Cowan, like many other theorists, emphasise the role of long-term memory, in that a chunk must be representative of something we already know. Anderson’s ACT-R model, however, views chunks as schema-like structures containing pointers that encode their contents. This latter definition does make sense, in that cognitive schemas and chunking can be thought of as similar mental workarounds.įor us to begin to understand the nature of a chunk, we first need to step slightly away and look at the nature of working memory capacity and why it can be so problematic. Researchers have known for some time that short-term memory is limited. |
